Neapolitan Song (De Curtis, Ernesto )

Date of recording: Monday, 08/09/1919

Original Neapolitan Text:
Comm'è bella 'a muntagna stanotte...
bella accussí, nun ll'aggio vista maje!
N'ánema pare, rassignata e stanca,
sott''a cuperta 'e chesta luna janca...

Tu ca nun chiagne e chiágnere mme faje,
tu, stanotte, addó' staje?
Voglio a te!
Voglio a te!
Chist'uocchie te vonno,
n'ata vota, vedé!

II

Comm'è calma 'a muntagna stanotte...
cchiù calma 'e mo, nun ll'aggio vista maje!
E tutto dorme, tutto dorme o more,
e i' sulo veglio, pecché veglia Ammore...

Tu ca nun chiagne e chiágnere mme faje,
tu, stanotte, addó' staje?
Voglio a te!
Voglio a te!
Chist'uocchie te vonno,
n'ata vota, vedé!...

English translation:

How lovely the mountain is tonight
I've never seen it look so beautiful!
It seems like a tired, resigned soul,
under the cover of this pale moon.

You who do not weep,
and make me weep,
where are you tonight?
I want to be with you!
I want to be with you!
These eyes want
to see you once more!

How calm the mountain is tonight
I've never seen it so calm!
And everything is asleep or dead,
and only I am awake
- because Love is awake

In my opinion it will be helpful to include lirics since neapolitan is softer and really different to Italian. I can imagin it is difficult task but perhaps not impossible.
