The crescendo on the last note of the recitative going into the last chorus is totally magical. It feels like he has so much in reserve, whereas many tenors would be singing at max here. And, this isn't even a role usually associated with a heavier voice like his. I just wanted to note that this is the kind of singing that makes me understand why he was so! amazing. Thanks for making it available, Tom.

This recording comes from "Digital Caruso" rec 2000 onwards.
recreated with the Vienna Radio Symph Orch. THE ORCHESTRA IS MAGNIFICENT but
TOO LOUD in most of the cuts. In addition the overtones in Caruso's voice are distorted: the "Gold wrapped in velvet"* is gone!Note the muffled quality here and there.

Far superior is Nimbus' Caruso in surround sound, using their ambisonic method and released recently on DVD (NOT CD)
But Tom thank you for keeping the unique voice alive on your website.

*Giovanni Martinelli. Rosa Ponselle told me that his voice "glowed like hot coals"

I cry myself ! It is amazing how such a powerful voice can be so tender and "caressing."

I couldn't agree more Tom, thanks so much for such an awesome site! I'll be frequenting it a lot and will also tell my friends who appreciate the opera and Caruso.
