Neapolitan Song (Nutile, Emanuele)
Date of recording: Saturday, 06/11/1909
This is the first song Caruso recorded in his native dialect (about a poor, homesick Italian immigrant).
Caruso made the song a hit in Amerika.
Later, during one of his stays in Naples, Caruso visited Emanuele Nutile, the impoverished and forgotten composer of "Mamma mia" and is said to have pressed 5,000 lire into his hand - a quite considerable sum of money in those days.
